As a Muslim convert of 35 years, Khalil has delivered hundreds of lectures and “Introduction to Islam and Muslims” presentations across the U.S. His outreach work has gained national and international media attention, with appearances on ABC News, Fox News, CNN, NPR, BBC, Democracy Now, Al Jazeera, The Deen Show, and more. He was also featured in the Channel 4 (UK) documentary titled Turning Muslim in Texas.
Over the last two decades, Khalil has traveled extensively throughout the United States, giving khutbahs, conducting seminars, and offering community education programs in hundreds of masjids and centers. He is a graduate of the Bayan Master's Islamic Studies Program with academic focus in Islamic Ethics, Contemporary Islamic Thought, and Muslim Adolescent Identity Development.
His volunteer leadership includes serving as a founding board member of the U.S. Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO) and the Coalition for Civil Freedoms.
